The 63rd annual conference of the Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine (ISAM) will be held at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM), Bengaluru, from December 5 to 7, 2024. The event will focus on advancing research and cooperation in aerospace medicine under the theme "Collaborate for Research."
Established in 1952, ISAM is the only registered society in India committed to promoting aerospace medicine. This annual scientific gathering, held since 1954, serves as a key forum for knowledge exchange and innovation in aviation and space medicine.
The conference will be inaugurated on December 5 by Air Marshal SP Dharkar, Vice Chief of the Air Staff, and will bring together around 300 delegates, both in-person and virtual. Attendees include specialists from military and civil aviation, researchers from premier institutions, and prominent scientists from organizations such as ISRO and DRDO.
Dr. VR Lalithambika, an eminent scientist and former director of ISRO’s Directorate of Human Space Programme, will give the prestigious Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee memorial oration. Currently a Professor of Practice in the Aerospace Engineering Department at IIT Madras, she will address crucial elements of space medicine.
On December 6, Wg Cdr Karthik Kalyanram (Retd) from the Rishi Valley Rural Health Centre will deliver the Air Vice Marshal MM Srinagesh's memorial oration.
The Jemi Harmusji Framji Manekshaw panel will feature lectures by Dr. SL Vaya, Project Head at Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy of the Rashtriya Raksha University, and Dr. Hanumantray Baluragi, Director of ISRO’s Directorate of Human Space Programme.
The seminar will include over 100 scientific papers covering a wide range of topics in aerospace medicine. With a focus on interdisciplinary cooperation, it aims to address aeromedical challenges and drive innovation in military and civil aviation, as well as space exploration.
This inclusive, hybrid-format occasion stresses the critical role of aerospace medicine in ensuring the safety and efficiency of aviation and space missions.
