On 21 August, Arunachal Against Corruption (AAC) began a foot march from Itanagar to Delhi and reached Jantar Mantar on 25 September 2022 where they staged a protest at Jantar Mantar against the alleged corruption of the Pema Khandu-led Arunachal Pradesh government. They will submit their demand memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
For the past 28 days, the AAC has been staging a sit-in at a tennis court in Arunachal's Itanagar and demanding a CBI probe against Chief Minister Pema Khandu for his alleged involvement in corruption. Khandu, however, has denied all the allegations leveled against his government and termed these movements as politically motivated by opposition MLAs who cannot tolerate development activities in the state.
The ACC demanded a CBI and ED probe into the alleged scams under the Chief Minister. The protesters further said that they would stage a sit-in at Jantar Mantar till the Prime Minister's Office hears their plea and sends the CBI & ED to the state.
According to the ACC, the Khandu family is involved in various corruptions such as Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) 68 crore scam, electricity scam under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana 142 crore scam, Panchayati Raj system fund mismanagement 889 crore, mining department and minerals Scam 32 cr, gross misuse of CAMPA fund 588 cr, Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) and hydropower scam.
RTI activists from Arunachal, Save Arunachal Movement, Arunachal Justice Forum, All Nyishi Youth Association and many others joined the sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar.
