In an important step to promote adventure tourism, Arunachal Pradesh's Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu today launched a historic rafting expedition on the Brahmaputra River. The expedition organized by the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), will begin on January 14th from Gelling in Arunachal Pradesh and end at Dhubri-Hatsingimari in Assam on February 14th. The journey will cover a distance of 916 kilometers along the river.
This is the first-ever rafting expedition of its kind in India, set to showcase the incredible beauty of the Brahmaputra and challenge participants with its rapids. The expedition's goal is to promote adventure sports, raise awareness about the environment and encourage young people to get involved in such activities.
At the flag-off ceremony in Itanagar, NIMAS Director Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal briefed the Chief Minister about the expedition's objectives and challenges. Shri Pema Khandu, who is also the Vice President of NIMAS, wished the team well and expressed confidence in their success. He looked forward to welcoming them back after their return.
This journey not only highlights the strength and determination of the adventurers but also aims to boost the popularity of river rafting as an adventure sport in India. (PR)
