India and the United Kingdom have signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) to work together on designing and developing electric propulsion systems for future Indian Navy ships. The agreement was signed during a meeting in Portsmouth, where officers from both countries came together to support their defence partnership.
This latest agreement will help both countries cooperate on building advanced technology for naval ships, focusing on electric propulsion systems. These plans are important because they make ships more efficient, peaceful, and environmentally friendly.
One of the key projects will be the building of Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), which are large ships used to transport armies and equipment. These ships will have a Full Electric Propulsion System and be built in an Indian shipyard, helping India extend its ability to develop advanced naval technology independently.
The SoI was signed by Shri Rajeev Prakash, a senior official from India’s Ministry of Defence, and Rear Admiral Steve McCarthy from the UK Ministry of Defence. This partnership shows a strong dedication from both governments to work together and share knowledge, helping India modernize its navy with cutting-edge technology.
This collaboration is an important step in backing defence ties between India and the UK and supporting India’s goal of becoming more self-dependent in defence production. (PR)
