About the Durand Cup

The Durand Cup, Asia’s oldest and the world’s third-oldest football tournament symbolizes India’s rich football history and culture. Organized by the Indian Army on behalf of the three services, the Durand Cup has been a breeding ground for India’s best football talent over the years.

The inaugural edition was held in Shimla in 1888, moving to New Delhi in 1940, where it remained until 2016. In 2019, the tournament came under the aegis of the Eastern Command and moved to the eastern part of the country, with Kolkata becoming its new home. Unique to the Durand Cup is its three trophies: two rotating (the Durand Cup and the Shimla Trophy) and one for permanent keep (the President’s Cup).

As the Durand Cup unfolds over the coming weeks, football enthusiasts are invited to celebrate the sport, honour its traditions, and look forward to moments of brilliance that will be remembered for years to come.
