On January 19, 2025, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Member of Parliament, Member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), and General Secretary of the Indian National Congress, posted a tweet ON Twitter (X) in which he said:
"Those who sold the country's 'property and resources' to private hands, have now come to selling the 'constitutional post' of the Lieutenant Governor!
The shameful incident of the deal for the post of 'Deputy Governor' of Andaman Nicobar being fixed for a total of ₹100 crores and the transaction of money is in front of the country!
To bargain for this constitutional post, ₹30 crore out of ₹100 crore had to be paid upfront, of which ₹10 crore 46 lakh was paid!
If this matter had not come before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the auction of the constitutional post would have been completed on the payment of ₹100 crore!
Now Prime Minister Narendra Modi should answer as to whose 'pocket' this amount of ₹100 crore was supposed to come into...
And how many 'beneficiaries' of 'constitutional and government posts' have been created so far through such 'bargaining'?"
Surjewala’s tweet blames the government for selling important government jobs for money. He says the job of Deputy Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands was being sold for ₹100 crore. ₹30 crore was supposed to be paid upfront, and ₹10 crore 46 lakh was already paid. He also says that if the Punjab and Haryana High Court had not stepped in, the deal would have been finished quietly.
Surjewala is asking Prime Minister Modi to explain who was supposed to get the ₹100 crore and how many other government jobs might have been sold like this? If these claims are true, it would raise big concerns about corruption in how important government jobs are given.
