The India-Uzbekistan Joint Military Exercise, DUSTLIK-VI 2025, wrapped up successfully on 27th April 2025, marking the culmination of a two-week-long training program that focused on enhancing counter-terrorism capabilities and building stronger military partnerships between the two nations. Held at the Southern Command Foreign Training & Military Civil Fusion Training Node in Aundh, Pune, the exercise brought together Indian and Uzbek contingents for a series of tactical drills, simulated scenarios, and operational training.

A Strong Partnership for Peace

The exercise was officially concluded by Brigadier Shailender Sharma, VSM, who was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony. He praised the professionalism and dedication displayed by both nations during the course of the exercise and emphasized the importance of such military collaborations in enhancing trust and cooperation. He also highlighted the exercise’s motto: “Partnership for Peace, Preparedness for Tomorrow,” which reflects the shared commitment to regional stability and security.

For the past two weeks, Indian and Uzbek troops have worked closely together, engaging in joint operations designed to enhance their ability to tackle modern-day security challenges. The focus was on counter-terrorism tactics, hostage rescue missions, and urban warfare in semi-urban environments—skills that are critical for ensuring peace and safety in the region.

Training Together for Better Cooperation

One of the key highlights of DUSTLIK-VI was the opportunity for both armies to learn from each other’s experiences. The exercise provided valuable insights into each other’s operational procedures, allowing participants to exchange best practices and refine their skills in areas such as reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, and close-quarter combat. This mutual learning will be instrumental in future joint operations, as both nations continue to strengthen their military cooperation.

The scenario-based exercises, conducted in semi-urban settings, provided a realistic training environment where troops could practice neutralizing terrorist threats and handling complex security situations. These exercises also stressed the importance of adhering to international humanitarian laws, ensuring that any counter-terrorism operations conducted in urban areas prioritize the safety of civilians.

A Step Toward Self-Reliance and Innovation

The exercise also showcased India’s growing defense capabilities, with Indian-origin weapons and equipment being used throughout the operation. This served as a demonstration of the country's progress in defense production and its commitment to the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative. The use of indigenous technologies not only highlights India’s defense prowess but also reinforces its position as a key player in global security efforts.

Fostering Long-Term Stability

Beyond the immediate tactical benefits, DUSTLIK-VI 2025 has reinforced the broader goals of fostering peace, prosperity, and cooperation between India and Uzbekistan. This exercise is part of a broader strategy to build strong military ties with Central Asian nations, ensuring that the region remains stable and secure amidst rising global challenges.

As Brigadier Sharma concluded the ceremony, he reaffirmed the importance of these joint exercises in preparing both armies for future challenges. The lessons learned during DUSTLIK-VI will undoubtedly play a key role in future operations, as both nations continue to work together to promote regional peace and security.

Through this collaboration, India and Uzbekistan have taken another step toward a future of stronger ties, mutual trust, and shared responsibility in securing a peaceful and prosperous region.(PR)
