The Indian Army celebrated Asom Diwas with a lively festival held today on December 3, 2024, at Bhimbor Deori LP School in Tinsukia district, Assam. The event sought to instill pride and awareness among the youth and emphasized Assam's rich cultural legacy, history, and contributions to India.
The festival saw lively participation from 100 students and eight teachers from the school. The students performed a collection of cultural programs that echoed the traditions, values, and historic spirit of Assamese society through rhythm, movement, and expression.
Speaking at the event, the school’s Principal, Mr. Gautam Deori, extended his sincere appreciation to the Indian Army for its active role in organizing the celebration and engaging with the local community.
Asom Diwas, celebrated annually on December 2, marks the establishment of the Ahom kingdom in Assam by Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha in 1228. Sukapha, a Tai prince, is revered as the creator of a unified Assamese identity, having brought together myriad communities and cultures during his rule.
The occasion served as a platform to honor Sukapha’s lasting legacy and inspire the younger generation with lessons from Assam's illustrious history.
