On March 31, 2025, a very unfortunate incident happened in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where some Catholic priests and people from the Christian community were attacked while they were peacefully practicing their religion. This group of people had come from the Mandla parish for a religious pilgrimage, but instead of finding peace, they faced violence and fear.
According to reports, the attackers were believed to be members of a group linked to Hindutva ideology, possibly the Bajrang Dal. Two priests, Father Davis and Father George T, were among those badly treated. They were not only physically attacked but were also taken away unlawfully—twice.
This incident has caused a lot of concern across the country. The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) strongly condemned the attack. They said that what happened was completely against the rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India. Every citizen in India has the right to practice their religion freely and peacefully, and this attack was a clear violation of that right.
The NPCC said it was especially disturbing that peaceful pilgrims were treated this way. These people were not causing any trouble. They were simply expressing their faith, which should never be a reason for violence. The NPCC also said that this kind of religious hatred and growing intolerance is a serious danger to India’s unity and democracy.
While the police did help in releasing the victims, the NPCC believes that this is not enough. They are asking the government of Madhya Pradesh to take quick and strong legal action against those responsible. They also want the government to make sure that such incidents don’t happen again in the future. According to the NPCC, the safety of religious minorities must be taken seriously and proper steps must be taken to protect their rights.
The NPCC also showed its full support and sympathy for the Catholic community in Madhya Pradesh. They said that India is a secular country, where people of all religions should be able to live peacefully together. No one should be allowed to disturb this harmony.
This attack has upset many people around the country. Human rights groups, religious leaders, and ordinary citizens have all spoken out, asking the government to take action and show that violence and hatred have no place in our society.
In the end, the NPCC hopes that justice will be done quickly and that faith in the rule of law will be restored. They believe that only by standing up for truth, peace, and unity can India remain a strong and fair country for everyone. (PR)
