Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi announced that the Indian Navy plans to induct 96 ships and submarines in the next ten years, marking a substantial enhancement of the nation’s maritime abilities. Speaking at the annual Navy Day press conference on 2nd December in New Delhi, Admiral Tripathi announced that 62 ships and one submarine are already under construction, with one new ship scheduled to be inducted every month until the end of next year.
The Admiral also revealed that this year’s Navy Day celebrations, scheduled for December 4, will take place in Puri, Odisha. President Droupadi Murmu will be the Chief Guest at the event, which marks the Navy's key role in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.
Discussing regional security, Admiral Tripathi expressed concerns over the growing abilities of the Pakistan Navy, which has been receiving significant support from China. He stressed that China's involvement in building warships and submarines for Pakistan echoes its strategic intent to strengthen Pakistan’s naval strength. However, he reassured that the Indian Navy is fully equipped to counter any threats posed by its neighbors.
Admiral Tripathi also revealed the recent successful test of a nuclear-capable missile from INS Arighaat. He highlighted that the test displayed India's advancing maritime strike capabilities and showed the Navy's preparedness to address strategic challenges.
The Indian Navy continues to prioritize indigenization and modernization as it strengthens its fleet, ensuring strong maritime security in an increasingly complex regional environment. (PR)
