The Indian Army organized the highly anticipated "Army Sports Conclave," emphasizing its pivotal role in enhancing India’s sports framework. As the nation prepares to host the 2036 Olympics, this conclave acts as a vital platform for collaboration among various stakeholders, including the Indian Olympics Association and the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The discussions focused on developing strategic partnerships to elevate India’s global sports standing.

Commitment to Nurturing Athletes

With a rich tradition of contributing to India's sporting successes, especially in major competitions like the Asian Games and Olympics, the Indian Armed Forces have been instrumental in fostering athletic talent. The Indian Army’s Mission Olympics Wing, established in 2001, currently supports around 9,000 athletes across 28 sports nodes.

In conjunction with SAI, it operates numerous Boys and Girls Sports Companies aimed at nurturing young talent. Furthermore, a dedicated Paralympic Node has been created to train and motivate disabled soldiers for para-sports, showcasing the Army's commitment to inclusivity in athletics.

Insights from Sports Leaders and Olympians

The conclave featured notable attendees, including Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Labour and Employment, and Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, a former Olympian. Colonel Rathore emphasized government initiatives like the 'Khelo India' program, aiming for India to secure maximum Olympic medals by 2036 through the establishment of Centres of Excellence. Dr. Mandaviya praised the Indian Army's essential contributions and called for a united approach to promote sports nationwide, emphasizing a comprehensive roadmap to nurture talent at all levels.

The event also benefitted from insights shared by former athletes and Olympians, such as Anju Bobby George and Mary Kom, who highlighted the importance of sports education and resource sharing. The discussions focused on integrating sports science, utilizing the experience of retired athletes, and preparing athletes mentally and physically for the upcoming Olympics. The conclave laid a robust foundation for actionable strategies aimed at ensuring India’s success on the international sports stage.
