Chowna Mein Expands Education and Sports, Advocates for Wildlife Protection

At the Unying A: ran Festival, Chowna Mein promoted the ‘No Hunting’ campaign, urging wildlife conservation and environmental protection.

Arunachal Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein, inaugurated a new School Auditorium and Football Stadium at Independent Golden Jubilee Government Higher Secondary School (IGJGHS) in Pasighat. These new facilities, built under the IGJGHS School Heritage Redevelopment initiative by the Pasighat Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, aim to improve education and sports opportunities for students.
Speaking at the event, DCM Mein highlighted the benefits of the new facilities. He stated that the School Auditorium would serve as a venue for cultural events, academic discussions, and community gatherings. The Football Stadium would provide students with a space to play, stay fit, and develop their sports skills. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing well-rounded education and extracurricular opportunities for students.
Later, DCM Mein attended the Unying A:ran Spring Carnival at the Gi:di Notko Festival Ground in Pasighat as the Chief Guest. The festival celebrated Arunachal Pradesh’s rich culture with performances such as the Mega Yakjong Dance and Tapu Dance, symbolizing unity and pride. The event also featured the unveiling of the Na:nyi Me:té Portrait and Ritual Taku-Tabat.
In his speech, Mein praised this year’s festival theme—‘No Hunting.’ He appreciated the Adi community for shifting the festival’s focus from hunting to wildlife conservation. He stressed the importance of protecting nature for future generations and urged everyone to take responsibility for environmental conservation.
Mein also highlighted the need to restore Arunachal Pradesh’s forests and wildlife to attract tourism and maintain ecological balance. He applauded the Unying A:ran Celebration Committee for promoting the message of environmental protection.
Education, Tourism, and RWD Minister P. D. Sona also supported the conservation message. He urged people to stop hunting and consuming wild meat to help protect wildlife. In the evening, the dignitaries watched a drama directed by Sangeet Natak Academy member Delong Padung, which carried a strong message about wildlife preservation.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, MLAs Tapi Darang (Pasighat East), Oken Tayeng (Mebo), Tojir Kadu (Nari-Koyu), Oni Panyang (Geku-Mariyang), Ninong Ering (Pasighat West), Talem Taboh (Rumgong), Puinnyo Apum (Dambuk), State BJP President Kaling Moyong, Director of the North East Zone Cultural Centre Prashanna Gogoi, and Padma Shri awardee Sentila Tsukjem Yanger, among others.
The Unying A:ran Spring Carnival 2025 successfully blended tradition and environmental awareness, reinforcing Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to preserving culture and nature. (PR)
