The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s election as the President of the Indian National Congress with a special Centenary Programme. The event was conducted by Shri Thokchom Meinya Singh, ex-MP, and Md. Fajur Rahim, Working President of MPCC, along with Congress leaders and party workers.
The program was held in connection with the historic Belgaum Session in Karnataka, where Mahatma Gandhi was elected Congress President in 1924. This point was a key turning point in India’s freedom movement and solidified Gandhi’s leadership within the party.
At the event, leaders reflected on Gandhi's visionary leadership and his important role in shaping India’s political future. They also remembered the core values he stood for—non-violence, truth, and social justice.
Congress leaders, party workers, and supporters gathered to celebrate the Father of the Nation, reaffirming their commitment to his principles. The event concluded with a call to continue the work of nation-building, guided by the ideals Mahatma Gandhi set during his time as Congress President.
This observance highlighted the lasting legacy of the Indian National Congress and its dedication to upholding democracy, freedom, and equality. (PR)
