The Indian Army, in collaboration with Pune-based NGO Aseem Foundation, has taken a meaningful step towards women’s empowerment by setting up a Skill Development Centre for Bead Jewellery at P Moulding Village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. This initiative, part of Operation Sadbhavana, aims to provide local women with practical skills that will help them earn a living and become financially independent.
The center was inaugurated on March 25 by Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding, Spear Corps. The event was attended by key dignitaries, including Major General SS Kartikeya, General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division, officials from Aseem Foundation, senior army officers, village leaders, veterans, and local residents.
To help women get started, a five-day jewellery-making workshop was conducted by renowned jewellery designer Mrs. Rajasshri Parashar from Pune. During this training, fifteen women from the village learned important skills such as creating wire loops, identifying different types of beads, stringing them together, and knotting techniques.
The project is designed to be self-sufficient, with Aseem Foundation taking responsibility for its future development. The goal is to turn the centre into a small business that will provide a steady income for the women involved. Local community members have expressed their gratitude to the Indian Army for supporting their development and improving their quality of life.
Through such initiatives, the Indian Army continues to empower women by providing them with valuable skills and opportunities. This effort will help them become financially independent and contribute to the progress of their communities. (PR)
