The Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) commemorated its 68th Raising Day on September 27, 2024. This occasion signifies a pivotal achievement in its ongoing mission to uphold the quality of defence armaments, supplies, and equipment. DGQA has played a crucial role in establishing and maintaining stringent quality standards for Indian Army equipment.
As part of a significant initiative aimed at promoting ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and achieving self-reliance in Defence, DGQA is undergoing a reorganization. This restructuring focuses on accelerating Quality Assurance processes and trials while simplifying decision-making layers. The new framework will provide a single point of technical support for all equipment and weapon platforms, ensuring consistency in product-based quality assurance.
These reforms are designed to shift DGQA towards a preventive quality assurance model, moving away from traditional inspection methods. The agency has also adopted innovative technologies and quality assurance methodologies to tackle emerging challenges proactively.
Additionally, a dedicated Directorate for Defence Testing and Evaluation Promotion has been set up to ensure transparent distribution of proof ranges and testing facilities. This new arrangement, combined with the automation and digitization of standardized quality assurance processes, is expected to enhance collaboration between the Defence Industry and DGQA significantly.
Furthermore, domestic private industries are now permitted to access DGQA's testing facilities, further facilitating the ‘Ease of Doing Business.’
