In a deeply emotional response to the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge has expressed anguish over the loss of innocent lives and called for a united national front to confront the menace of terrorism.
Late last night Kharge spoke to Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah and senior leaders from the Congress’s Jammu and Kashmir unit. The focus of their conversation: ensuring justice for the victims and safeguarding the fragile peace in the region.
“The perpetrators of this heinous attack must not go unpunished. The innocent victims deserve justice. This is not just an attack on people — it’s an attack on the very soul of our nation,” Kharge said.
He didn’t mince words when he described the attack as a case of cross-border terrorism and urged the government to respond with strength and clarity.
Kharge also underlined the importance of political unity in such trying times.
“When the country is under threat we must stand together, beyond party lines, beyond politics. This is the time for unity in action,” he stated.
He further stressed the need for the central government to hold discussions with all political parties to chalk out a robust security roadmap for Jammu and Kashmir. Of particular concern he said was the safety of tourists who continue to visit the Valley.
“Tourism is the lifeline of the state. Every single effort must be made to ensure the safety of visitors,” he said.
The Pahalgam incident has once again thrown light on the unresolved threat of terror infiltrations and the high cost of complacency. As the nation mourns, Kharge’s message is clear: there must be resolve, there must be justice and above all there must be unity.(PR)
