The
fifth leg of the Special Sailing Expedition, titled “Bhartiyan Nadiyan,
Sanskrityon ki Jananni” (Indian Rivers: Mothers of Civilizations), was
ceremoniously embarked in Patna today by Major General A.S. Bajaj, Additional
Director General, NCC Directorate Bihar & Jharkhand. This enterprising
endeavor, which started on October 21 in Kanpur, will end in Kolkata on
December 20, travelling 1,200 kilometers along the Ganges and Hooghly rivers.
A
homage to India’s maritime legacy, the expedition seeks to motivate young minds
toward service, adventure, and environmental stewardship. The voyage, split
into six phases, involves 528 Naval Wing cadets from across the country.
The
fifth leg of the journey spans from Patna to Maniyari, with 96 cadets
representing Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, and Bihar & Jharkhand
NCC Directorates. The cadets will navigate riverine routes while promoting
harmony and discipline. As part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, cadets
will clean riverbanks and spread awareness about reducing plastic pollution.
They will perform Nukkad Nataks (street plays) to highlight the
importance of environmental conservation and celebrate India's cultural
heritage. Engaging with local NCC groups, they aim to inspire collective action
for a cleaner and greener India.
At
the flag-off function, Major General Bajaj commended the cadets for their
passion and dedication. He conveyed the best wishes of the Director General of
NCC and appreciated the consistent support of the Bihar State Government, which
has given vital support, including medical aid, logistical arrangements, and
security at ghats.
Stressing
the significance of rivers in India’s history, he said, “This expedition is
not just about sailing; it is about celebrating our heritage, preserving our
environment, and inspiring our youth to embody the values of discipline and
service. I am immensely proud of our cadets, who are not only honing their
skills but also contributing meaningfully to society through their efforts in
environmental conservation and cultural promotion.”
The
Special Sailing Expedition epitomizes the National Cadet Corps dedication to
nurture responsible citizens and service-oriented leaders. Through activities
that merge discipline with social and environmental engagement, cadets inspire
communities along the route to protect rivers and conserve cultural heritage.
Major
General Bajaj also praised the expedition’s leaders and organizing team for
their meticulous planning and execution, ensuring the success of all six phases
so far.
The
NCC Directorate Bihar & Jharkhand has called upon the public and media to
amplify the stories of these cadets, whose devotion acts as a beacon of hope
and potential for India's youth.
As
the fifth leg progresses, the expedition continues to emphasize the permanent
bond between India’s rivers and its civilization, while inspiring young minds
to take an enthusiastic role in nation-building and environmental conservation.
