In an inspiring display of endurance and national pride, a 16-member cycling team from the Indian Army’s Tiger Division has achieved an extraordinary feat by reaching Komic, one of the highest villages in the world, located at an altitude of 15,100 feet in Himachal Pradesh. The expedition, part of the Lightning Streaks Regiment, covered over 1,000 kilometers, with much of the route being off-road.
The team, comprising one officer, one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), and 14 other ranks, braved treacherous terrain and unpredictable weather conditions to navigate through the remote regions of Himachal Pradesh. Along their journey, they touched base with 26 border villages, including five vibrant villages recognized by the Government of India and the Himachal Pradesh State Government: Chitkul, Chango, Pooh, Leo, and Nako. Other key locations the team passed through included Hurling, Tabo, Kaza, and finally, Komic.
The cycling expedition was not just a test of physical strength and resilience, but also a mission of outreach. The soldiers engaged with approximately 2,300 school children and youth, raising awareness about important career opportunities like the Agnipath Scheme, Officer Entry Scheme, and entry options for girls into Sainik Schools, Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun, and the Officers Training Academy. They distributed pamphlets and entrance exam books to motivate students to pursue careers in the armed forces.
The journey, which culminated in Kaza on October 12, 2024, reinforced the bond between the Indian Army and the local civilian population. It also served to promote tourism in the border regions, highlighting the natural beauty and cultural richness of the area.
