The Indian Navy's frontline stealth frigate, "INS Talwar", made a significant port call at La Réunion on October 27, as part of its ongoing deployment across the Indian Ocean Region. This visit marks another step in bolstering the maritime partnership between India and France, with both nations committed to addressing regional security challenges in the strategically important waters of the Indian Ocean.
INS Talwar's agenda at La Réunion includes cross-deck visits and professional interactions with the French Navy, aimed at fostering cooperation and enhancing mutual operational understanding. The ship was also opened to "Pravasi Bharatiya" (Indian diaspora) visitors on October 27, providing them an opportunity to connect with India's naval presence abroad.
The "India-France partnership" has long been one of mutual respect and strategic cooperation, particularly in the defense and maritime domains. Both countries share a vision for secure and peaceful oceans and have collaborated extensively in exercises and operations to reinforce this goal.
Commissioned on June 18, 2003, INS Talwar serves as part of the "Indian Navy’s Western Fleet", under the Western Naval Command. Commanded by "Captain Jithu George", the ship recently participated in the "IBSAMAR VIII multilateral exercise in South Africa", alongside navies from India, Brazil, and South Africa. This exercise emphasized tactical interoperability and coordination across friendly navies.
Following its departure from La Réunion, "INS Talwar engaged in a Maritime Partnership Exercise" with the French Navy's ship, Floreal. The drills included coordinated maneuvers and helicopter flying exercises, further reflecting the depth of Indo-French naval ties.
INS Talwar's presence at La Réunion highlights India’s enduring commitment to fostering strong diplomatic and defense relationships with France and other like-minded nations, emphasizing a shared dedication to the vision of peaceful and secure oceans. (PR)
