The Government of India has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, PVSM, AVSM, as the next Chief of the Air Staff. Currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Singh will assume his new role with the rank of Air Chief Marshal on September 30, 2024, following the retirement of the current Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC.
Born on October 27, 1964, Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh was commissioned into the fighter pilot stream of the Indian Air Force in December 1984. Over his nearly 40-year distinguished service, he has held various command, staff, instructional, and international assignments.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College, Air Marshal Singh is a Qualified Flying Instructor and Experimental Test Pilot with over 5,000 hours of flying experience across fixed and rotary-wing aircraft. His career highlights include commanding an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base.
As a test pilot, he led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team in Moscow, Russia. He was the Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre, overseeing the testing of the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas. Air Marshal Singh has served as Air Defence Commander at South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command.
Prior to his current position as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Air Command.
