Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Spear Corps, visited the Red Shield Division at Leimakhong in Manipur on 12-13 November 2024 to assess the evolving internal security situation and operational readiness of the Indian Army in the region.
During his visit, General Pendharkar toured key locations, including the Leimakhong Military Station, YKPI, and Bishnupur, to review the current security dynamics and operational preparedness. He engaged in discussions with senior officers, including the GOC Red Shield Division, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East), Deputy Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), and other formation commanders. The discussions focused on the challenges of operating in the region and strategies for assisting the state in maintaining peace and stability.
The visit underscored the Indian Army’s commitment to addressing the region's complex security challenges. General Pendharkar commended the troops for their high standards of professionalism, unwavering commitment, and the strong morale maintained despite the difficult operational environment. He particularly praised their neutral and unbiased approach in managing the situation.
The review also highlighted the critical role the Army plays in the ongoing efforts to bring peace to the state, with a focus on fostering stability and improving the security situation in collaboration with state authorities.
