Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of India, met with General Dimitrios Choupis, Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, at the Salamis Naval Base during his maiden visit to Greece. The high-level discussions centered on enhancing strategic and operational ties between the two nations, with a focus on strengthening bilateral military cooperation. The two military leaders exchanged views on addressing evolving maritime challenges, reaffirming a shared commitment to ensuring stability and security in the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
One of the key areas of discussion involved avenues for cross-training in niche technologies and participation in advanced military courses, aimed at boosting the capabilities of both navies in responding to contemporary threats.
In addition, Admiral Tripathi met Vice Admiral Polychronis Koulouris, Commander-in-Chief of the Hellenic Fleet. The interaction delved into enhancing operational interactions and interoperability between the Indian and Hellenic navies, with briefings on the fleet's capabilities and the security challenges faced by Greece. These engagements underscored a commitment to furthering cooperation in the realm of maritime security.
The CNS also visited the Hellenic Navy's Damage Control School, where he observed cutting-edge firefighting and damage control simulators, highlighting Greece's focus on operational safety. Admiral Tripathi commended the Hellenic Navy for its professionalism and interacted with officers and crew onboard several key operational platforms, including the Type 214 Submarine *HS KATSONIS*, Fast Patrol Boat *HS GRIGOROPOULOS*, and the MEKO Class Frigate *HS HYDRA*. He was briefed on the advanced capabilities of these vessels, further cementing the partnership between the two naval forces.
