In honor of World Environmental Health Day, the Indian Army initiated a series of community and environmental events across Manipur, reaffirming its dedication to sustainability and the well-being of local communities. The events took place in the districts of Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Imphal East, and Leimakhong Military Station, focusing on environmental conservation and public health.
At Leimakhong Military Station, a tree plantation drive was conducted, where saplings of various species, including medicinal plants, were planted. The effort was aimed at promoting environmental conservation and boosting green cover in the area.
In Churachandpur district, over 250 saplings were planted in the villages of Chehjang and Changpikot. The Indian Army also led a cleanliness drive at the Relief Camp in Torbung Bangla, where the Village Chief of S. Kawtlian village, along with schoolchildren and local residents, participated in cleaning water tanks and ponds. This initiative enhanced local hygiene and contributed to sustainable water management in the area.
At Moirang Multipurpose High School, a presentation was delivered to students, covering the crucial link between environmental health and human well-being. Key topics discussed included climate change, pollution, sanitation, anti-plastic initiatives, and waste management. The event raised awareness about the significant impact of environmental degradation on public health.
In the Imphal East district, a drawing competition was organized at Changamdabi Public School, where 110 students participated. The competition, themed "Plant a Tree, Plant a Future," encouraged creative expression and reinforced the importance of environmental conservation. Following the competition, saplings were planted within the school premises, further promoting the environmental message.
These initiatives show the Indian Army's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and its active role in engaging with local communities for a healthier, greener future. (PR)
