The unmatched courage and sacrifice of the Indian Army during the Indo-China War of 1962 will be honoured in grand commemorative events at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial on 17 November 2024 and the Nyukmadung War Memorial on 18 November 2024. Battle of Nuranang (17 November 1962):
This battle immortalised the courage of the 4 Garhwal Rifles, led by Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, posthumously awarded the Mahavir Chakra, and Lance Naik Trilok Singh Negi and Rifleman Gopal Singh Gusain, both awarded the Vir Chakra posthumously. Rifleman Rawat’s heroic resistance delayed the enemy advance by 72 hours, causing heavy casualties and epitomising unyielding determination.
