Army Public School (APS) Damana observed World Health Day with great fervor and purpose, aligning with this year’s global theme — “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.” The day-long celebration was packed with thoughtfully planned activities that promoted the importance of physical health, nutritious eating, and family bonding.

The celebration kicked off with a special morning assembly presented by the students of Class X-D, who spotlighted the necessity of embracing a healthy lifestyle. Their presentation underscored the idea that good health forms the foundation of a fulfilling life.

To bring the message to life, the school hosted a series of inter-class co-curricular and athletic activities designed to encourage active participation and healthy competition. A particularly engaging event was the “What’s in My TiffinProtein-Rich Food” competition for Class VI students. Alongside, students from Classes VII and VIII took part in a Salad-Making Competition, crafting vibrant, nutritious salads and learning the importance of including fresh produce in daily meals.

Adding further depth to the observance was the presence of Dr. Suman Shan, MBBS, MS, a highly experienced medical professional associated with Acharya Shree Chander College, ECHS Bhuj, Gangtok, and Polyclinic Mamun Cantt. Invited as the Guest Speaker, Dr. Shan addressed an interactive health session attended by parents and students.

In her address, Dr. Shan shared valuable insights into maintaining overall well-being, emphasizing the age-old wisdom: “A healthy mind resides in a healthy body.” She encouraged parents to adopt holistic parenting strategies by ensuring a balanced diet, reducing screen time, and spending meaningful time with their children.

A major focus of her session was the alarming rise in Vitamin D deficiency among children. She recommended regular sun exposure — at least 20 minutes twice a week — as a natural remedy. The session also included a lively Q&A segment, where students and parents posed thoughtful questions. One memorable query came from Ridit Singh of Class VII, who asked how families can bond without depending on social media. Dr. Shan responded by highlighting the power of real-world interaction and engaging in shared offline activities.

Mrs. Puspinder Kaur, the Principal of APS Damana, also addressed the gathering. She reiterated that good health is central to happiness and emphasized the school’s dedication to fostering healthy habits from an early age.

The program concluded with a token of appreciation presented to Dr. Shan by the Principal. A vote of thanks was delivered by Akansha Gulati and Ridit Rajput of Class VII, acknowledging the contributions of everyone involved in making the event impactful.

The celebration was not just a tribute to health—it was a powerful reminder that nurturing well-being from childhood is the first step toward building a brighter and stronger future. (PR)
