The Indian Navy’s prestigious and highly anticipated sailing event, the Indian Navy Sailing Championship (INSC) 2024, is all set to take place at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, from 16 to 19 October. This annual regatta is the largest in the Navy’s calendar and is expected to draw over 100 participants, marking a grand showcase of sailing prowess within the naval community.
The Marakkar Watermanship Training Centre (MWTC) at INA, known for being one of the best-equipped sailing facilities in the country, will host this event. Participants from the Indian Navy, including officers, cadets, sailors, and Agniveers, will compete in five different classes of boats across three racing formats, testing their mettle on the water.
Organized under the aegis of the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA), based at Naval Headquarters, the INSC is a key event to foster competitive sailing among naval personnel. The championship features sailors from the three Naval Commands, showcasing their seamanship skills in one of the Navy’s most important annual competitions.
This year's races will take place in four popular formats. Fleet racing will be held in three categories: the International Laser Class Association (ILCA-6) class boats for women, ILCA-7 class boats for men, and Bic Beach class boats for windsurfing (open category). Additionally, Team Racing will be contested in the Enterprise class boats.
The Indian Navy places a strong emphasis on watermanship activities, viewing sailing as a crucial discipline for developing seamanship, leadership qualities, camaraderie, and courage. The championship embodies these values, as participants strive to demonstrate both their technical expertise and their team spirit on the water.
With all eyes set on the upcoming competition, the INSC 2024 promises to be an exciting and challenging event for the Navy's top sailors. (PR)
