The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has issued a strong demand for the immediate termination of Professor Sarat Chandra Yenisetti of the Department of Zoology, Nagaland University, following serious allegations of misconduct. The press release dated 26 Nov 2024 signed by NSF President Medovi Rhi and Secretary of Publicity and Information Pithungo Shitio, summarizes incidents of verbal abuse and physical assault reportedly perpetrated by the professor.
According to the NSF, the latest incident occurred on November 25, 2024, during official working hours. It is alleged that Professor Yenisetti used abusive and derogatory language towards a group of postgraduate students and physically assaulted a female assistant professor from the same department. The federation defined these acts as a breach of professional ethics and human dignity.
The NSF’s statement suggests that this is not an isolated case. The professor is reportedly has a history of unprofessional and unethical conduct, including repeated actions of intimidation and verbal abuse. The federation claims these acts have facilitated a toxic atmosphere within the department, negatively impacting the mental and physical well-being of both students and faculty.
The NSF has called on the management of Nagaland University to terminate Professor Yenisetti’s employment within three days of the release of their statement. The federation has warned that failure to comply will result in further action from their office, though the specifics of these measures were not disclosed.
“This kind of behavior tarnishes the reputation of Nagaland University, which is meant to be a safe space for academic and professional development,” the statement reads. The federation stressed the significance of maintaining a respectful and safe atmosphere for all members of the university community.
In addition to seeking action against the professor, the NSF has demanded the university to enforce strict policies and mechanisms to prevent such happenings in the future. They emphasized the need to encourage a safe and respectful academic environment to stimulate academic development and mutual respect.
The NSF assured the public that it would closely monitor the university’s response to these allegations and ensure accountability. No immediate comment was available from Professor Yenisetti or the management of Nagaland University at the time of this report.
As the situation evolves, all eyes remain on the university to take strong action in response to these allegations, which have sparked widespread concern within the educational community and beyond. (PR)
