Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein attended the Adi Youth Fest 2024 as Chief Guest, underscoring the importance of youth leadership and anti-drug efforts at the event held in Pasighat. Organized by the Adi Ba:ne Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW) under the theme, “Say No To Drugs,” the festival aimed to inspire youth engagement in societal issues and promote a drug-free community.
Addressing the attendees, Mein emphasized the vital role of youth in building a brighter future through active social responsibility, such as community service, education, and positive societal contributions. He remarked that young people have the power to drive sustainable progress, advocating that small but impactful actions can collectively foster a more prosperous community.
Mein also raised serious concerns about the ongoing drug crisis, which he described as a "detrimental force" affecting communities. He praised the Adi Ba:ne Kebang Women Wing and Women Against Social Evils (WASE) for their strong initiatives against drug abuse. "The government stands firm in its commitment to eradicate this growing menace," he stated, calling for tougher actions against drug peddlers.
Highlighting the Arunachal Pradesh government’s focus on youth, Mein reaffirmed that 2024 has been designated as the "Year of the Youth," aimed at boosting opportunities in education, sports, and personal development for young people. During the event, he also honored Joluk Minung, the founding president of the ABK Fest, for his significant contributions to youth development and commitment to organizing the festival.
Mein further outlined government initiatives supporting the youth, including enhanced educational resources and sports infrastructure, to ensure a well-rounded future for young people. "Our goal is to provide every resource and opportunity for the youth to thrive and contribute positively to society," he assured.
Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, who also addressed the gathering, spoke about the untapped potential of young people to bring about social transformation. He encouraged youth to strive for excellence across various domains like sports, culture, literature, and academics, stating that discipline and effort would elevate their communities and contribute to a stronger society. Gao expressed hope that events like the Adi Youth Fest would serve as valuable platforms for channeling youth energy and addressing pressing issues like drug abuse.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including MLA Pasighat (West) and Advisor Ninong Ering, MLA Pasighat (East) Tapi Darang, MLA Dambuk Puinnyo Apum, MLA Geku-Mariyang Oni Panyang, ABK President Tadum Libang, ABK Secretary General Vijay Taram, ABK Youth Wing President Oki Dai, as well as the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police from Pasighat.(PR)
