Union Minister and Dibrugarh MP, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, paid tribute to Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 100th birth anniversary. The tribute was part of a special prayer meeting held at Tarun Sangha Sports Ground in Hatimura, Dibrugarh.
Speaking to a gathering of citizens and dignitaries, Shri Sonowal praised Vajpayee as a leader who taught values of unity, service and humanity. “Atal Ji showed us the path of selfless service. His leadership encourages us even today to work for a stronger and brighter India,” he said.
Sonowal reflected on Vajpayee’s dedication to good governance and his deep connection with the people. “Atal Ji’s leadership was about making lives better. His commitment to the people’s welfare made him a beloved leader. We must follow his path and ensure that the people’s well-being is at the heart of all we do,” Sonowal added.
The Union Minister marked similarities between Vajpayee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting how both leaders highlighted good governance and global leadership. “Under PM Modi, India’s stature on the world stage has risen significantly. This is a continuation of the foundation Atal Ji laid for a prosperous and peaceful India,” he stated
Shri Sonowal encouraged citizens to work together for a self-dependent and developed India by 2047. He highlighted Vajpayee’s belief in the idea of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—“The world is one family”—as a guiding principle for building a united and successful future.
Calling on young Indians, Shri Sonowal said, “Atal Ji believed true happiness in politics comes from serving people selflessly. Let us embrace his values of simplicity, service, and sacrifice to make India great.”
The event was attended by several prominent personalities including Rituparna Baruah, Chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation, Bikul Deka, Chairman of Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited, Dibrugarh Mayor Chaikat Patra, Deputy Mayor Ujjwal Phukan and others.
The gathering ended with a message of hope, encouraging everyone to honor Vajpayee’s legacy through dedication to the nation. “To truly celebrate Atal Ji’s life, we must work towards unity and progress,” Sonowal concluded.
