Christopher Tilak, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Incharge of Nagaland, visited the District Congress Committee (DCC) in Mokokchung today. He was accompanied by Hon'ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President, S Supongmeren Jamir, NPCC Working President Khriedi Theunuo, Ketseiyie Mere (President, DCC Kohima), and other NPCC leaders.
Reinventing Congress Messaging for Youth and Women
During his address to the gathering, Tilak acknowledged the need for the Congress party to reinvent its messaging and align it with the aspirations of India's youth. He emphasized the importance of youth and women in shaping the electoral mandate in contemporary India, urging Congress to connect with these key demographic groups to maintain its relevance.
Welcoming Former NDPP Youth Leaders
Tilak welcomed several young and dynamic former NDPP youth leaders into the Congress fold. Among them were Alemtuba Imsong, ex-candidate from Mokokchung Municipal Council's Sangtemla Ward, Tiasunep, former Vice President of the NDPP Youth Wing, and Imsuwapang Jamir, former Youth President of Sangtemla Unit. He called on them to work tirelessly for the welfare of Nagaland, under the secular ideals of the Indian National Congress.
Unity and Outreach for Congress' 2028 Mission
Focusing on the party’s mission for the upcoming 2028 elections, Tilak stressed the importance of unity and outreach. He urged Congress members to embody the spirit of the people of Mokokchung and contribute to the political and socio-economic development of Nagaland. Tilak encouraged the party to be a value-adding force, just like salt, in the collective effort to bring about positive change.
2028 Elections: Preparation and Strategy
S Supongmeren Jamir, the MP, highlighted the significance of the 2028 elections, urging Congress leaders to prepare and strategize according to the needs of the times. He emphasized the importance of dynamic leadership that can effectively address the concerns of the people. Jamir also criticized the central government’s decision to suspend the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border, calling it a painful step towards the “rebalkanisation” of the Naga Family.
Assessing Party Progress in Mokokchung
Khriedi Theünuo, NPCC Working President for Administration Zone ‘A,’ shared that the visit aimed to assess the party's progress in the Mokokchung district. He expressed confidence that the party was ready to transition from the opposition to governance. Theünuo also acknowledged Mokokchung’s historical role in the acceptance of Christianity and education and called on DCC Mokokchung to take a leading role in opposing the BJP’s divisive agenda.
