In a significant step towards empowering women and fostering community well-being, the Female Engagement Team (FET) of the Indian Battalion (INDBATT) under the aegis of UNISFA in Abyei conducted a menstrual hygiene awareness session, benefitting approximately 42 local women.
The initiative was spearheaded by the FET Commander aimed to promote menstrual hygiene management, dismantle stigma and advocate for equal access to education and economic opportunities for women and girls.
The session focused on educating women about menstrual health, addressing misconceptions and fostering open dialogue to eliminate social taboos. It also included the distribution of sanitary products and training for local women workers thus ensuring a long lasting impact. The initiative received widespread appreciation from the local community and the Abyei government, recognizing India’s proactive role in addressing critical public health challenges.
With such initiatives, the Indian Army reaffirms its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education and Gender Equality.
