On January 30, 2025, Vice Admiral Rajaram Swaminathan became the new head of Warship Production & Acquisition, taking over from Vice Admiral B Sivakumar.
Vice Admiral Swaminathan, who joined the Indian Navy in 1987, has over 37 years of experience. He is a graduate of IIT Kharagpur and has served in many important roles during his career. He spent more than nine years aboard the Aircraft Carrier INS Viraat in different positions.
He has held several key jobs, including Fleet Engineer Officer of the Western Fleet, General Manager (Refit) at Naval Dockyard Mumbai, and Director of Personnel and Ship Production at New Delhi. He also played a major role in bringing the Aircraft Carrier Vikramaditya to India, both in Russia and in New Delhi.
Vice Admiral Swaminathan has studied at the Defence Services Staff College and the National Defence College. He has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and the Nao Sena Medal (NM) for his outstanding service.
Before becoming the Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition, he worked as the Director General of Naval Projects, Admiral Superintendent of Dockyard in Mumbai, and held key roles in Delhi at the ACOM (D&R) and ACOM (Mod).
With his vast experience and leadership, Vice Admiral Swaminathan is expected to make important contributions to strengthening India’s naval defense. (PR)
