The Indian Army has shown its continued support for Gorkha veterans at a special Ex-Servicemen (ESM) Rally held in Pokhara, Nepal. The event was attended by Lt Gen Zubin A Minwalla, the General Officer Commanding 33 Corps & Colonel of the 9th Gorkha Rifles. He spoke to the gathering of veterans and their families during his visit to Nepal.
Lt Gen Minwalla also met with senior officials of the Nepal Army during his trip to discuss ways to strengthen the military ties between India and Nepal.
The rally had a large turnout, showing the strong relationship between the two countries. Lt Gen Minwalla honored the sacrifices of the Gorkha soldiers, recognizing gallantry award winners and Veer Naris (war widows) for their bravery and dedication.
He reassured the veterans that the Indian Army and Government of India are committed to supporting them and their families. He shared that the Army is working on welfare programs to assist Gorkha veterans.
The event gave veterans a chance to meet with Indian Army officials, ask questions, and learn more about the welfare initiatives. The positive energy from the veterans showed the close bond between India and Nepal and the Indian Army’s commitment to caring for its retired personnel.
The Gorkhas have been a key part of the Indian Army for more than 200 years. They are known for their bravery, skill in combat and loyalty. Gorkha regiments have earned many awards for their courage in major battles, including World War I & II and the 1999 Kargil War. Their battle cry, “Jai Mahakali, Ayo Gorkhali,” represents their fearless spirit. (PR)
