The Indian Army and Assam Rifles have launched a joint rescue operation in Umrangso, located in the Dima Hasao district of Assam, to save miners trapped in a waterlogged mine. The operation, involving a Rescue Task Force comprising divers and engineers, faced challenges as divers made two unsuccessful attempts to access the mine on Tuesday.

In an effort to aid the rescue mission, Army engineers are working closely with the civil administration to pump out water from the mine. They are also coordinating efforts to ensure adequate lighting at the site, enabling operations to continue through the night.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence covering Manipur, Nagaland, and southern Arunachal Pradesh stated that the joint rescue team remains committed to their mission. Search operations will resume on Wednesday morning as part of the ongoing efforts to locate and rescue the trapped miners.

The situation remains critical as authorities strive to overcome logistical and environmental challenges to ensure the safety of the miners. (pr)
