Shri. S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, launched the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Chip Design at NIELIT’s Noida campus on February 4th. This new Centre, set up in collaboration with SoCTeamup Semiconductors Pvt Ltd, a recognized startup, is a big step towards improving India’s semiconductor design and development skills.
This project supports the Indian government’s plan to make the country a global leader in electronics and IT by supporting semiconductor technology.
The Centre is prepared to train skilled professionals in the semiconductor industry by providing modern facilities for research, innovation, and teaching in chip design and VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration). The aim is to create a skilled workforce to meet the increasing global demand for semiconductors.
The Centre plans to make India a key player in semiconductor creation, focusing on VLSI and chip design. It will offer world-class education, study, and industry partnerships to help India become a leader in semiconductor technologies and strengthen its position in the global electronics and IT sectors.
At the inauguration, Shri. Krishnan visited the Centre’s top facilities, such as the Project Lab and Smart Classroom. The Project Lab will be a space for students, professionals, and researchers to work together on innovative chip design projects. The Smart Classroom will offer an advanced learning experience with modern teaching tools, changing how semiconductor education is delivered.
During the event, a special demonstration of VLSI-based Intellectual Property (IP) was given, showing the Centre’s focus on improving semiconductor design and development. This highlighted the Centre’s role in building a strong knowledge base in VLSI and training a talent pool to meet the growing demands of the industry.
The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) is an independent body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. NIELIT works to promote education, training, and research in electronics, IT, and related fields. The new Centre of Excellence in Chip Design is a part of NIELIT’s ongoing efforts to push technological innovation and excellence.
SoCTeamup Semiconductors Pvt Ltd is a recognized startup that focuses on VLSI and System-on-Chip (SoC) design technology. The company is dedicated to advancing India’s semiconductor industry through innovation and excellence.
The launch of the Centre of Excellence marks a major step toward improving India’s position in the global semiconductor field, while also changing how the country educates and trains in chip design. (PR)
