Today, during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in Parliament, Hon'ble MP Shri. S Supongmeren Jamir brought up several important issues affecting Nagaland and the North Eastern region.
Shri. Jamir began by commenting on the President’s statement that ten peace agreements had been signed in the North East. He pointed out that two key agreements for Nagaland—the "Framework Agreement" and the "Agreed Position"—were signed almost 10 and 8 years ago but have still not been implemented. The delay in implementing these agreements has resulted in ongoing unrest in the state, with 26 factions causing problems like heavy taxation and widespread corruption. The MP urged the central government to take action and implement these agreements to bring peace and economic progress to Nagaland.
The MP also raised a concern about the absence of secularism in the President's address. He emphasized that secularism is crucial for holding together India’s diverse cultures and identities, and it should be recognized as a unifying force in the country.
Shri. Jamir further highlighted the significant infrastructure problems at Nagaland University. The university is struggling with a lack of sports facilities, insufficient hostel accommodations, and poor laboratory facilities. He appealed to the central government to provide the necessary support to improve the university's infrastructure and create a better environment for students.
The MP called for more seats to be allocated to students from minority communities and other states to ensure better opportunities for education in Nagaland.
Shri. Jamir's speech focused on the ongoing challenges in Nagaland, urging the government to take immediate steps to address these issues and improve the state’s situation.
