The Territorial Army, commonly known as the "Citizens Army," is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee this year, marking 75 years of its establishment since its formation in 1949. To commemorate this milestone, the Territorial Army has organized a series of events across Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting its contributions to society, nation-building, and environmental conservation.
In a show of civil-military collaboration, the Territorial Army organized blood donation and tree plantation drives in various locations. Blood donation camps were held in coordination with government medical colleges, district and private hospitals, and local NGOs in places like Galuthi, Palma, Thanamandi, Udhampur, Ramban, Khundru, Khunmu, Srinagar, Baramulla, and Kupwara. More than 2,000 blood units were donated by citizen-soldiers, reinforcing the motto "a gift of blood is a gift of life." A mega blood donation drive in Udhampur, under the aegis of the Territorial Army Group Headquarters, saw active participation from the police, local NGOs, and Army personnel.
In addition to the blood donation initiative, the Territorial Army also contributed to environmental conservation efforts by planting 1,000 saplings at military stations across the region. This action underscores the Army's commitment to environmental sustainability and ecological restoration.
Earlier, the Territorial Army also undertook a challenging cycling expedition from Siachen Base Camp to Indira Point, aimed at raising public awareness on national integration, environmental consciousness, and the role of the Indian Army in community welfare.
These activities reflect the Territorial Army's enduring spirit of service to the nation, both as soldiers and citizens, contributing to the well-being of the community and the environment. (pr)
