The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), part of the Ministry of Finance, has destroyed a huge amount of illegal drugs across India. The Drug Disposal Drive, which took place from January 11 to 26, 2025, led to the destruction of over 7,800 kg of ganja, 1,700 kg of methaqualone (known as Mandrax), 560 kg of hashish (charas), and 130 kg of methamphetamine. Other drugs destroyed included 105 kg of ketamine, 23 kg of heroin, 20 kg of cocaine, and 7 kg of MDMA. Additionally, the drive saw the destruction of 94 lakh tramadol tablets, 46,000 alprazolam tablets, and 586 ampules of different drug injections.
The total value of these destroyed drugs is around Rs. 2,246 crores, showing just how big the fight against drug trafficking is. The drugs were safely destroyed at different locations across India, without harming people or the environment.
This drive is part of CBIC's ongoing effort to stop the illegal drug trade. It also aims to inform the public about the work CBIC is doing to tackle this issue.
The drive is also linked to a nationwide effort that was launched by the Union Home Minister during a meeting on drug trafficking and national security in New Delhi on January 11, 2025. This shows the government's continued commitment to fighting drug problems and protecting national security. (PR)
