A tragic maritime collision occurred on the evening of November 21, 2024, when an Indian fishing vessel, Marthoma, collided with an Indian Naval unit approximately 70 nautical miles northwest of Goa. The incident resulted in the launch of large-scale search and rescue (SAR) operations by the Indian Navy.
Out of the 13-member crew onboard Marthoma, 11 have been rescued, while efforts to locate the remaining two are ongoing. The Indian Navy has mobilized six ships and multiple aircraft to assist in the operation. Coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Mumbai, is ensuring the efficient deployment of additional resources to the area.
