Fishing Vessel Collides with Indian Naval Unit off Goa Coast 11 Rescued; Search for 2 Missing Crew Members Ongoing

The Indian-Navy has deployed multiple-ships and aircraft, with additional-support from MRCC-Mumbai. Investigation into the collision is underway.

A tragic maritime collision occurred on the evening of November 21, 2024, when an Indian fishing vessel, Marthoma, collided with an Indian Naval unit approximately 70 nautical miles northwest of Goa. The incident resulted in the launch of large-scale search and rescue (SAR) operations by the Indian Navy.

Out of the 13-member crew onboard Marthoma, 11 have been rescued, while efforts to locate the remaining two are ongoing. The Indian Navy has mobilized six ships and multiple aircraft to assist in the operation. Coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Mumbai, is ensuring the efficient deployment of additional resources to the area.

The Indian Navy promptly responsded by deploying nearby vessels and aircraft to locate survivors. Details about the circumstances leading to the collision are yet to be ascertained.

Updates on the ongoing SAR operations are expected as efforts intensify in the coming hours. (IN)
