On November 26, 2024, India and Tanzania carried the third edition of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting in Goa. This meeting observed another important step in the strong defence partnership between the two countries.
During the meetings, both sides explored several areas of cooperation. These included improving training programs and coordination between their armed forces and working together in ocean and defence industries. They also scanned the progress made on judgments from earlier meetings and talked about new opportunities to develop their partnership.
The Indian team, led by Joint Secretary Shri Amitabh Prasad, included senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces. Shri Bishwadip Dey, India’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, also participated. On the Tanzanian side, Land Forces Commander Maj Gen Fadhil Omary Nondo led the delegation.
As part of their visit, the Tanzanian representatives will explore India’s shipbuilding and port development abilities by visiting Goa Shipyard Ltd. They are also scheduled to visit INS Hansa, a key naval airbase, and the National Institute of Hydrography, both located in Goa.
India and Tanzania have always shared a warm and friendly relationship, supported by joint efforts in building capacity and fostering partnerships. The two countries have also created a five-year roadmap to guide their defence cooperation.
This meeting highlighted the commitment of both nations to work closely together in defence and security, contributing to peace and stability in the region.(PR)
