India is charging ahead with its push for electric vehicles (EVs)! On September 29, 2024, the government launched the PM Electric Drive Revolution (PM E-DRIVE) scheme, with a massive ₹10,900 crore budget aimed at speeding up EV adoption and building a nationwide charging network.
The scheme includes ₹2,000 crore dedicated to setting up Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (EVPCS) across the country. This move is expected to make it easier for EV owners to charge their vehicles wherever they go.
In addition, the Ministry of Power has rolled out new guidelines to ensure these charging stations are connected and work seamlessly across different EV models.
Currently, India has over 25,000 EVPCS, with 271 of them in Chhattisgarh alone. As more electric vehicles hit the roads, the government is focused on creating the infrastructure needed to support the growing demand for charging stations.
This exciting development was shared by Shri Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Steel, in the Rajya Sabha. This bold step is set to drive India’s transition to a cleaner, greener future.
