The Indian Navy's First Training Squadron (1TS), comprising INS Tir, INS Shardul, and ICGS Veera, arrived in the port city of Bandar Abbas as part of their long-range training deployment in the Persian Gulf. This visit marks a significant step in bolstering maritime cooperation and fostering mutual understanding between India and Iran.
The Indian ships were ceremonially escorted into the harbor by the Iranian Navy vessel IRI Naval Ship Zereh and received a formal welcome at the jetty by dignitaries from the First Naval District of the Iranian Navy and representatives from the Indian Navy.
During their stay, the squadron will engage in a series of professional interactions aimed at enhancing maritime security and promoting interoperability between the Indian Navy and the Iranian Navy. The schedule includes professional exchanges, cross-training visits, a wreath-laying ceremony, friendly sports matches, and a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX).
This visit follows the Iranian Training Flotilla ships Bushehr and Tonb's visit to Mumbai in March 2024 as part of ongoing training interactions. Additionally, IRI Naval Ship Dena participated in the multinational Naval Exercise MILAN in February 2024. The current visit underscores India's commitment to maritime cooperation with regional partners, aligning with India's SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision. (pr)
