Kohima, December 20, 2024: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), along with its frontal organizations and the Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC), held a massive demonstration at the Congress Bhavan today, demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The protest, part of a nationwide movement, was sparked by the Home Minister’s alleged controversial remarks against Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. Shri Khriedi Theunuo, Working President of NPCC, criticized the remarks, stating they undermined democratic principles and called for accountability at the highest level.
Smti Akuonuo Miachieo, PCC Secretary (Protocol), echoed these sentiments, describing the remarks as a blatant disregard for constitutional values and demanding the Home Minister’s immediate resignation.
The protest also drew attention to the death of Assam Youth Congress member Mridul Islam, allegedly caused by Assam Police, and the detention of Youth Congress leaders Zubair Anam and Uday Bhanu Chib in Guwahati. Shri Lima Lemtur, President of the Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC), condemned these actions, labeling them as abuses of power and attacks on democratic values.
In addition, the NPCC refuted accusations made by BJP MP Smti S. Phangnon Konyak against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling them baseless attempts to distract from pressing national issues.
The NPCC vowed to continue its protests until the Home Minister steps down, reaffirming its commitment to upholding constitutional integrity and democratic principles.(pr)
