Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has called on Indian scientists and engineers to focus on mastering advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Quantum Computing. Speaking at the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) Annual Convention at IIT Delhi, he highlighted the importance of these advanced technologies in shaping the future and improving people’s lives.
“We are still in the early stages of these technologies. Our goal should be to become experts in them so that they can be used for the welfare of people and to meet their basic needs,” he said.
Shri Rajnath Singh highlighted India’s rapid progress in defence technology under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's leadership. He mentioned how India, once dependent on importing weapons, is now exporting advanced defence equipment. “Modern warfare is transforming fast, and we must adopt high-end technologies to stay ahead,” he said. He also mentioned government programs like Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) and the Technology Development Fund (TDF) that encourage young talent to innovate for the nation’s progress.
The Raksha Mantri praised IITs for their contributions to scientific development, especially in partnership with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). He urged for stronger collaboration between industries, research organizations, and educational institutions to advance technology. “In countries like the US, universities play a major role in driving innovation. We need to involve institutes like IIT Delhi in government initiatives to achieve similar success,” he added.
He also commended India’s growing start-up ecosystem and credited young innovators for the country’s progress in technology. “Our government is committed to supporting your ideas and dreams. Together, we will achieve a self-reliant India, or ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat,’” he said.
Shri Rajnath Singh encouraged scientists and engineers to stay connected to India’s legacy while working on modern technologies. “It’s fine to adopt global ideas where needed, but our traditions and history should guide us as we move forward,” he said.
The Raksha Mantri also toured an exhibition of defence technologies and effects created through collaborations between industries, academia, and R&D organizations. He appreciated the posters presented by IIT Delhi students and researchers, showcasing innovative projects.
The three-day INAE convention brought together over 400 engineers, technologists, and researchers from academia, industry, and strategic sectors. The event included panel discussions, plenary talks, and opportunities for networking among participants.
The Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) is a prestigious organization supported by the Government of India. It focuses on promoting innovation, collaboration, and modern technology. With over 1,000 Indian and 107 foreign fellows, INAE has played a key role in advancing India’s engineering capabilities.
This convention marks another step toward India’s goal of becoming a global leader in science, technology, and self-reliance. (PR)
