The Eastern Naval Command (ENC) marked a historic occasion today with the organization of the inaugural Veterans' Day Parade at RK Beach, Visakhapatnam, to commemorate the 9th Armed Forces Veterans Day. The event, which saw the participation of over 500 veterans, Veernaris, and their families, served as a heartfelt tribute to the men and women who have bravely served the nation.
Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ENC, flagged off the parade as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Vice Admiral VK Namballa (Retd), President of the Navy Foundation, Dr. Chandra Shekar P, Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (Retd), and Governing Council Member of the Veteran Sailors Forum for the flag-off ceremony. The parade began at Vishwa Priya Hall on RK Beach Road and culminated at the Naval Coastal Battery, where veterans and dignitaries gathered for a commemorative breakfast and an interaction session.
The event was marked by widespread support from senior officials, including Flag Officers and personnel from ENC, as well as representatives from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Sea Cadet Corps, and students from Sainik School Korukonda. Local dignitaries, including Vizag District Collector Shri MN Harendhira Prasad IAS and Commissioner of Vizag City Police Shri Shanka Brata Bagchi IPS, also attended the event.
In addition to the parade, specialized helpdesks were set up by the three armed services to provide updates on recent policies and resolve service-related issues for veterans. Support was also offered by SPARSH (System for Pension Administration), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), and leading banks, addressing unresolved matters for the veterans. A health camp focusing on bone and joint care, organized by the NGO 'Le Pharma,' offered free consultations and insights into orthopedic care.
During the interaction, Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar conveyed his gratitude to the veterans for their selfless service, emphasizing the Navy's dedication to supporting the welfare and well-being of retired personnel and their families.
This significant event hosted by the Eastern Naval Command not only celebrated the resilience and spirit of the veterans but also reinforced the nation's commitment to remembering and honoring those who have dedicated their lives to protecting the country’s sovereignty and integrity.
