A High-Level
Committee (HLC), chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation
Shri Amit Shah today, has sanctioned ₹1,115.67 crore for disaster mitigation
and capacity-building measures across various states. This step aligns with
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of building a disaster-resilient
India and strengthening the nation's preparedness for handling disasters
effectively.
The HLC
sanctioned the National Landslide Risk Mitigation Project in 15 states at a
total cost of ₹1,000 crore. The states include Arunachal Pradesh, Assam,
Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura,
Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. The
allotted funds for the project are as follows:
- Uttarakhand:
₹139 crore
- Himachal
Pradesh: ₹139 crore
- Eight
North Eastern States: ₹378 crore

Maharashtra: ₹100 crore
- Karnataka:
₹72 crore
- Kerala:
₹72 crore
- Tamil
Nadu: ₹50 crore
- West
Bengal: ₹50 crore
An extra
₹115.67 crore was sanctioned for training and capacity building of civil
defense volunteers across all states and Union Territories. This initiative,
funded under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), strives to improve
disaster preparedness and response capabilities at the grassroots level.
The
committee had earlier approved:
- Urban
Flood Risk Mitigation Projects in seven cities, with a total expenditure of
₹3,075.65 crore.
- Glacial
Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) Risk Management in four states, with a total
expenditure of ₹150 crore.
The Ministry
of Home Affairs, under Shri Amit Shah’s leadership, has implemented several
initiatives to minimize the loss of lives and property during disasters. The
government has strengthened disaster risk reduction strategies through proactive
actions and budget allocations.
This year
alone, over ₹21,476 crore has been distributed to states to support disaster
management measures. The breakdown includes:
- ₹14,878.40
crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to 26 states.
- ₹4,637.66
crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to 15 states.
- ₹1,385.45
crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 11 states.
- ₹574.93
crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to six states.
The
government’s aggressive policy echoes its dedication to building a
disaster-resilient India. With these measures, India strives to mitigate the
impact of natural disasters and boost the country’s ability for effective
