The Western Command celebrated the courage and commitment of its soldiers with a grand two-day Investiture Ceremony at the Manekshaw Centre and Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment. The event, held on January 10 and 11, showcased exceptional bravery, professional excellence, and India’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
Honoring Heroes
On January 10, Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Command, felicitated 53 distinguished soldiers at a glittering ceremony at the Manekshaw Auditorium. The honorees were recognized for their acts of gallantry, devotion to duty, and distinguished service to the nation.
During the ceremony, the coveted Western Command Banner was presented to the Golden Arrow Division for outstanding performance in professional activities, sports, and adventure. Lt Gen Katiyar also interacted with the awardees and their families, urging all ranks to continue striving for professional excellence and to uphold their commitment to national security.
Grand Parade at Cariappa Ground
The second phase of the ceremony on January 11 featured a spectacular parade at the iconic Cariappa Parade Ground. The event opened with six marching contingents, eight mechanized contingents, and the world’s only mounted cavalry regiment, the 61 Cavalry.
Lt Gen Katiyar conferred gallantry medals to 14 soldiers for their acts of bravery and awarded 27 unit citations to distinguished personnel and units under the Western Command.
Showcasing Self-Reliance
The parade also highlighted India’s progress in defense manufacturing through the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Indigenously developed military equipment, including the PINAKA Multi-Launcher Rocket System, NAG Missile System, SARVATRA Bridging Equipment, AKASH Missile Systems, and SWATHI Weapon Locating Radar, were displayed.
The impressive showcase of indigenous weaponry reaffirmed confidence in India’s defense capabilities and left the audience in awe of the Army's might.
