Auli, Uttarakhand: The 8th edition of the India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise 'KAZIND' is currently taking place at the Surya Foreign Training Node in Auli, Uttarakhand. This joint exercise, which commenced on September 30, 2024, emphasizes sub-conventional operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate, with a specific focus on counter-terrorism.

The Indian contingent, consisting of 120 personnel from the Kumaon Regiment and the Indian Air Force, along with members from supporting arms and services, is collaborating closely with their Kazakhstani counterparts to enhance interoperability between the two forces.

The exercise has included several key training activities so far, such as a Yoga session, an Army Martial Arts Routine, rock craft training, and Special Heliborne Operations. The Yoga session, attended by troops from both nations, aimed to promote physical and mental well-being while fostering spiritual balance and resilience among the soldiers.

In the Army Martial Arts Routine, Indian troops showcased their hand-to-hand combat skills to the Kazakhstan contingent, demonstrating close-quarters combat techniques. The rock craft training focused on preparing soldiers to operate in rugged, mountainous terrain, vital for navigating difficult environments during counter-terrorism missions.

A highlight of the joint exercise has been the Special Heliborne Operations, which emphasized rapid deployment into hostile areas via helicopters. This swift insertion technique is essential for conducting efficient and precise counter-terrorism operations.

The KAZIND exercise continues to strengthen defense ties between India and Kazakhstan, providing a platform for both countries to improve their military capabilities and coordinate effectively in the global fight against terrorism.(PR)
