Security forces in Mizoram have recently stopped two vehicles carrying large amounts of explosives, including thousands of detonators and gelatin sticks.
On January 24, 2025, acting on specific details, the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police set up a checkpoint at Durtlang Leitan, Aizawl. They stopped a vehicle traveling from Aizawl to Durtlang, searched it, and found 7,000 electric detonators. The explosives were handed over to the Mizoram Police for further investigation.
A week later, on January 31, 2025, the security forces set up another checkpoint at Edenthar on the Aizawl-Sairang road after receiving a tip-off. They stopped and searched a suspicious vehicle, which led to the discovery of 800 detonators marked CDET ALFA from a company in Wardha, Maharashtra, and 2,000 gelatin sticks weighing 250 kg, packed in 10 boxes and traced to a company in Nagpur. These explosives were also seized and handed over to the Mizoram Police.
Authorities are now investigating where these explosives came from, where they were headed, and whether they were meant for illegal use. Security forces have promised to continue their efforts to keep the public safe and prevent illegal activities.
