In an awe-inspiring experience, 500 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from the Jammu & Kashmir Directorate witnessed the wonders of the night sky during a special event at the NCC Training Academy in Nagrota. Using telescopes, the cadets were treated to a stunning view of celestial bodies from the Milky Way galaxy, including the Moon and Jupiter. Constellations such as Ursa Major and Ursa Minor were also showcased through a laser light show, igniting the cadets' curiosity and interest in astronomy.
This captivating session was led by Third Officer Tajinder Singh from the 5 J&K Battalion NCC, Poonch, who also serves as the District Nodal Officer for the Eco Club in Poonch. Officer Singh has been instrumental in organizing various environmental initiatives, planting over 40,000 trees in the past few months through government-backed programs.
The cadets are participating in a Combined Annual Training Camp, running from October 4 to 13, 2024, aimed at providing them with specialized training. In addition to stargazing, the camp features diverse sessions designed to foster teamwork and develop essential life skills. Training has been conducted by various departments, including the Anti-Narcotics Department, Fire Fighting Department, Cyber Security Department, and the State Disaster Relief Force.
Cadets have also received instruction in shooting simulation, .22 rifle shooting, drill practices, yoga, and a military-style physical fitness regime, which includes tackling an obstacle course. The camp promotes discipline, camaraderie, and physical well-being through its rigorous schedule. Cultural activities, social service programs, and various games and sports have further enriched the participants' experience.
The camp is being organized by a dedicated team of officers, JCOs, and PI staff from the Jammu Group. Key personnel include Camp Adjutant Vinod Bakshi, along with Mumtaz Ahmed, Kajal Sharma, Anamika Jamwal, Shafia Saleem, Shivani Sharma, Ajay Sharma, Rajeshwar Singh, and Girl Cadet Instructors Danya M and PGR Manyula. Behind the scenes, the office and support staff have worked tirelessly to ensure smooth operations, maintaining infrastructure and ensuring cadets are provided with nutritious meals.
The NCC cadets expressed their excitement about the knowledge and skills they've gained and pledged to carry these lessons into their future endeavors. The unique combination of physical, technical, and astronomical training has left a lasting impact, preparing them for challenges ahead. (PR)
